Tips From the Field: Office 2013

If you have XenApp, chances are you have Microsoft Office in XenApp..its a popular combination. Well Office 2013 is in full swing and if you want to save time and headache with installing it and wondering “What do I configure?”, this expanded Tips From the Field post is for you.

The method that I use is a custom installer file. To create one you have to use the Microsoft Office Customization Tool. It can be launched by running the Office setup.exe file from the command line with a /admin argument. (See screenshot below). From here you can customize many aspects of the install preferences. Due to this being a Tip from the Field post I’m not going to write a book here because these are suppose to be short and sweet, but I have included a lot of screenshots of the config below if you are the kind of person who wants to “see” it. Otherwise I advise you scroll to the bottom and you will find a table listing all of my settings and a link to my template Office2013 custom install MSP file that you can use (don’t forget to customize the Company Name, Activation Key if not KMS, and Outlook Profile info).  Finally to install Office with the custom installer file just run setup.exe /adminfile <path to MSP>.

As with anything, the custom transform I provide is a baseline and template and should be evaluated for desired behavior in your environment and use is at your own risk.

  1. Nice.. Thanks Adam. The GPO admx after the fact is good to have out there as well to reinforce and keep some things from ever deviating….
